In May, gaming revenue on the Las Vegas Strip rose 13% year-on-year to US$807.8 million, driven largely by baccarat, which generated US$174.3 million, up 59% compared with the same month last year.

The city welcomed just under 3.5 million visitors in May, representing a 2% year-on-year increase. However, air travel remained under pressure, with Harry Reid International Airport reporting 4.5 million passengers, an 8% decline compared with May 2025.

Convention and group business was up 14% year-on-year through April, while May visitor counts rose 17% and taxable room revenue increased 27%.

Industry Context

Reno’s momentum coincides with major investment projects. Grand Sierra Resort is developing a 10,000-seat arena as part of a broader US$1 billion expansion project, which will become home to the University of Nevada men’s basketball team from 2028.

Meanwhile, Jacobs Entertainment completed the first phase of its J Resort renovation in May, a US$400 million investment that includes interior upgrades, new festival grounds, an expanded resort entrance and youth football fields.

Next Steps or Impact

Reno is strengthening its position as one of Nevada’s most dynamic gaming markets, combining growth in casino revenue, tourism, conventions and real estate investment. While Las Vegas retains national attention through corporate activity and potential sports expansion, Reno is gaining relevance as a regional hub for gaming, entertainment and urban development.
