Zona de Azar Brasil – Brazil: 68% of Brazilians Participate in Some Form of Gambling
Brazil.- August 27, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com Hibou, a company specializing in market research, conducted a survey from August 7 to 9, 2024, interviewing 2,939 Brazilians from all social classes about their participation in gambling and gaming in general. The study found that 68% of the national population actively participate in some form of gambling, with the lottery being the most common.
“This study helps us understand the cultural and economic impact that gambling has in the country,” said Lígia Mello, CSO of the company conducting the research.
Among the respondents, 47% stated they participate in lottery games, 25% in raffles, 11% in sports betting, 10% in bingo, and another 8% in online casinos, with a notable mention of the controversial “Jogo do Tigrinho.” According to the survey, advertisements have a significant influence on the behavior of gamblers, as 42% reported seeing gambling ads on TV, 33% on Instagram, and 19% through influencers. Moreover, 19% of gamblers reported a “high” level of influence from advertisements on their decision to gamble.
“The lottery is a tradition deeply rooted in Brazilian culture. Many people see it not just as an opportunity to win money, but as a chance to dream of a life change,” added Lígia Mello.
Sports Betting Has a Direct Impact from Sponsorships
Sports betting was noted by 11% of gamblers, who stated that the sponsorships of betting companies have a direct impact on this growing number. Respondents indicated that 32% of recommendations come from family members, 31% from the reputation of the betting company, and 71% choose a betting company that sponsors their favorite club.
“Sports betting, especially those made on ‘bet’ platforms, reflects how sports and entertainment are linked to the personal desires of Brazilians. Sports sponsorship directly influences the behavior of gamblers, showing that trust and emotional engagement with a team play a crucial role in betting decisions,” added Lígia Mello.
“Jogo do Tigrinho” Also Featured in the Survey
The survey also revealed that “Jogo do Tigrinho” leads among online casino games, being the preference of 60% of respondents who consume this segment. The data indicated that Brazil has gamblers who spend the most time and money on this game, with 50% spending between R$ 10 and R$ 50 per round, while 34% invest between R$ 200 and R$ 500 per month on these platforms.
The survey data also showed that 50% of Brazilian gamblers set a limit between R$ 50 and R$ 100, while 36% admitted not having a defined limit. The frequency of betting varies, with 42% playing occasionally, 17% betting once or twice a week, and another 3% playing daily.
