The request presented by Cunha had the objective of clarifying essential points related to the accusations against him. The defense of the former referee also requests permission to fully view images of a private meeting between members of the Senate and the owner of the Sociedade Anônima do Futebol (SAF) of Botafogo.

Confidential hearing with former arbitrator

The Parliamentary Investigative Committee (CPI) on Apuestas will hold a closed-door session with Glauber do Amaral Cunha on May 13th. The decision to keep the hearing secret was taken to preserve the integrity of the investigations and provide an adequate environment for the testimony of the former football game.

Former referee Cunha is being investigated for alleged participation in illegal activities involving the manipulation of football parties. He was cited to declare before the CPI that John Textor had presented evidence that suggested Cunha’s participation in illicit acts.

The suspicions against Cunha arise from accusations that he had demanded an undue payment for influencing the result of a party of a lower category in the Carioca Championship.

Understanding the CPI of bets

The Parliamentary Investigative Committee (CPI) of Apuestas is carrying out an investigation into possible manipulations in football results in Brazil. The accusations were initially planted by John Textor, owner of the Botafogo club, which revealed specific incidents in the 2022 and 2023 national championships, citing parties that involved the Palmeiras team.

To investigate the accusations, the CPI took the initiative to implement investigative measures. At the same time, the commission is evaluating data from other entities, such as Sportradar, which did not detect signs of fraud in the previous year’s tournament.

The debate provoked mayors to involve the Confederación Brasileña de Fútbol (CBF), and Textor accused the organization of corrupt practices. However, until it closes, there are no concrete manipulation tests that affect the integrity of the Brazilian Championship or the Brazilian Cup.

Recently, Textor was sanctioned with a fine by the Tribunal Deportivo and was given a period of five days to present the tests that support his accusations.
