Zona de Azar Chile – Chile: Casinos Record Revenue of US$ 48,678,474 in June 2024

Chile.- August 15, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com  The 25 casinos operating in Chile recorded gross gaming revenue (win) of CP$45,319 million in June 2024. This, in real terms, was 7.1% lower than that obtained in June 2023.

As for the visits that generated this income, a total of 541,644 entries were recorded at the 25 operating casinos. This is equivalent to a decrease of 4.3% compared to June 2023.

The average expenditure per visit during this month was $82,223, which implies a decrease in real terms of 2.6% compared to June 2023. Thus, the tax contribution of the gambling casinos authorized by Law No. 19,995 reaches CP$16,037 million in June 2024.

The revenue is distributed as follows: $6.954 million paid by the casinos to the municipalities and regional governments in which they are located, $6.724 million in VAT on gambling and $2.358 million in tax on entrance fees.

The 25 gaming casinos operating in the country recorded gross gaming revenue (win) of $45,319 million in June 2024, which, in real terms, was 7.1% lower than those obtained in June 2023.

In June 2024, the 22 casinos authorized by Law 19,995 contributed CP$16,037 million in taxes, which represents a decrease of 6.7% compared to the taxes contributed in June 2023 in real terms (adjusted for inflation).

This revenue is broken down into several taxes. Firstly, a specific tax on gambling of $6.954 million allocated in equal parts to regional governments and municipalities to finance development works. 

Second, a value-added tax (VAT) of $6.724 billion allocated to the nation’s general funds, and third, a gambling hall entrance tax of $2.358 billion allocated to the nation’s general funds.

Regional governments and municipalities receive funds from the specific gaming tax in the month following payment made by operating companies. Therefore, if payments are made in July 2024, they will be distributed to local authorities in September 2024. 

Table 1 shows the distribution of taxes collected for the operation of June 2024. The values ​​are expressed in millions of pesos and broken down by region, operating company and type of tax. This description provides a clear view of how each of the components contributes to the total amount collected.

In total, the gambling casinos that appear in Table No. 2 contributed a total of $5,379 million to the municipalities in the form of economic offers in the month of June 2024. These payments are managed through the General Treasury of the Republic, to be distributed in each municipality under the same period as the transfer of the specific tax on gambling.

In particular, the Marina del Sol Calama casino, which was authorized in August 2022 and began operating its second period in June of this year, made a single payment in June corresponding to the proportion of the total amount committed for the guaranteed annual economic offer to the municipality for the year 2024.
