Ida López Joins IAGR Board of Trustees

Argentina.- 3 September 2026 | www.zonadeazar.com Dr Ida Magdalena López, President of Mendoza’s Provincial Institute of Games and Casinos, has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the International Association of Gaming Regulators.

Her appointment strengthens South American representation within one of the leading international organisations dedicated to cooperation between gambling regulators.

Regulatory Experience in Mendoza

López has served as President of the Instituto Provincial de Juegos y Casinos de Mendoza since 2019.

In that role, she is directly involved in the oversight and development of Mendoza’s regulated gaming and lottery sector.

Her provincial regulatory experience forms a central part of the background she brings to the international organisation.

First Woman to Lead ALEA

In 2024, López was elected President of Argentina’s Association of State Lotteries.

Her appointment marked an institutional milestone as she became the first woman to lead the organisation representing provincial government gaming and lottery authorities across Argentina.

The role also expanded her involvement in regulatory discussions at national and regional level.

Stronger South American Presence

IAGR said López’s appointment will strengthen the organisation’s ability to engage with members on major regulatory issues.

The association regards South America as an increasingly important region for regulatory innovation and policy development.

Her presence will bring an additional regional perspective to those discussions.

Statements

IAGR President Ben Haden highlighted López’s experience and said her appointment would strengthen the organisation’s presence in South America.

Vice-President Brian Krolicki also pointed to her international leadership and ability to contribute to IAGR’s growing collaboration initiatives.

López said she was honoured to join the Board of Trustees and emphasised IAGR’s role in bringing together regulators who face similar challenges despite differences between markets and government structures.

Annual Conference in Lima

López will also appear as a featured speaker at the IAGR Annual Conference.

The event will take place in Lima, Peru, from 19 to 22 October 2026.

Her participation will provide an opportunity to bring Argentine and wider South American regulatory perspectives into international discussions.

Regulation in a Changing Environment

The conference theme is “Steady hands, shifting ground: Advancing regulation in a connected world”.

It will examine how regulators and industry stakeholders can improve oversight as technology, markets and associated risks continue to evolve.

Cross-Jurisdictional Cooperation

A central objective of the conference will be to strengthen regulatory cooperation between jurisdictions.

Sessions will focus on sharing experience and developing approaches capable of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of gaming regulation.

International cooperation is becoming increasingly important as operators, technologies and products extend across multiple markets.

Industry Context

Gaming regulation is undergoing significant transformation worldwide.

The expansion of iGaming, new technologies, player-protection systems and newly regulated markets is requiring authorities to modernise their tools and deepen international coordination.

Within that environment, stronger Latin American representation in global regulatory organisations is becoming increasingly relevant.

Next Steps or Impact

Ida López’s appointment to the IAGR Board of Trustees increases Argentina’s institutional presence within international regulatory discussions.

Her participation can strengthen exchanges between Latin America and other jurisdictions on regulation, player protection, technology and market supervision.

The annual conference in Lima in October will be one of her first major opportunities to contribute from her new role and bring a South American perspective to IAGR’s global agenda.
