Argentina Online Gambling Searches Increase Twelvefold Since 2022

Argentina.- 3 November 2026 | www.zonadeazar.com A study conducted by consultancy Eunomia has revealed that online gambling search interest in Buenos Aires Province increased twelvefold between 2022 and 2026.

The research, entitled Casino en el bolsillo (Casino in Your Pocket), used Google Trends data to examine search patterns, geographical differences and the influence of sporting events and economic factors.

The report also highlights the dominance of online casino searches over sports betting and raises concerns about teenagers’ exposure to digital gambling.

Online Casino Searches Dominate

Nicolás Rossi, Director of Eunomia, explained that interest in the term “online casino” has increased more than twentyfold since 2019.

The research found that approximately ten online casino searches are recorded for every sports betting search.

This pattern is consistent with figures from the Buenos Aires Provincial Lottery and Casino Institute (IPLyC), which reports that 70% of activity on licensed gambling platforms involves casino games, primarily slots and roulette.

The findings demonstrate that online casino search interest substantially exceeds that of sports betting.

FIFA World Cup 2026 Drives Search Activity

The highest monthly search interest was recorded in June 2026, coinciding with the FIFA World Cup.

The study also identified increases during Copa América 2024 and the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.

During these major sporting competitions, searches rose by 20% to 33% compared with the preceding six weeks.

The figures highlight the influence of international sporting events on public interest in online gambling platforms.

Searches Increase Following Salary Payments

The research identified a pattern associated with income payment periods.

Between the 5th and 10th of each month, online gambling searches are 3.8% above their usual level.

This period coincides with the dates when many employees receive their salaries.

However, the indicator measures digital search activity rather than actual gambling expenditure.

Greater Buenos Aires Shows Geographical Differences

The study identified significant variations across Greater Buenos Aires.

In the second ring of the metropolitan suburbs, relative online gambling interest is 26% higher than in the first ring.

Municipalities reporting particularly high search levels include Ezeiza, Florencio Varela, José C. Paz and Malvinas Argentinas.

In contrast, San Isidro and Vicente López are among the districts with the lowest relative levels of interest.

These findings reveal geographical differences relevant to understanding the digital gambling market.

River Plate and Boca Juniors Sponsorships Stand Out

The research also examined the relationship between sports advertising and gambling brand recognition.

According to Eunomia, seven out of ten searches involving the five leading licensed brands concerned companies sponsoring River Plate and Boca Juniors.

The figures highlight the commercial visibility of betting operators within Argentine football.

Sponsorship agreements represent an important channel for brand exposure, although the research does not establish that every search was directly caused by these partnerships.

19.1% of Teenagers Report Having Gambled Online

The report references findings from the 2024 Digital Wellbeing Survey, which examined several aspects of young people’s digital behaviour.

According to the survey, 19.1% of students aged 12 to 19 in Buenos Aires Province reported having gambled online at least once.

The findings raise challenges concerning gambling prevention among minors and digital education.

They also highlight the importance of age verification, advertising controls and public awareness campaigns.

Regulation and Gambling Prevention

The findings provide information about factors associated with growing interest in online gambling.

For regulators, geographical and seasonal differences may help identify priority areas for preventive initiatives.

The report also provides insight into relationships between major sporting events, sponsorship activity and consumer searches.

However, Google Trends measures relative search interest rather than the number of gamblers or the amount of money wagered.

These indicators should therefore be considered alongside statistics from licensed operators and regulatory authorities.

Industry Impact and Next Steps

The Casino en el bolsillo study provides insight into the expansion of online gambling interest across Buenos Aires Province.

The increase in searches, the dominance of online casino gaming and geographical differences reflect changing patterns of public attention.

The influence of major sporting events and findings concerning teenagers also present challenges for consumer protection policies.

With online gambling search interest twelve times higher than in 2022, Buenos Aires Province faces growing digital visibility of gambling, highlighting the need to strengthen prevention, regulatory oversight and analysis of consumer behaviour.
