Kalshi Sets US$2,500 Monthly Deposit Limit for Young Traders

United States.- 3 November 2026 | www.zonadeazar.com Kalshi, the US prediction market platform regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), has announced additional protections for users aged 18 to 20, including a default monthly deposit limit of US$2,500.

Originally announced on 27 October and reported again on 2 November 2026, the initiative introduces automated alerts for potentially risky trades, educational resources and partnerships with organisations specialising in digital safety.

The measures are intended to strengthen safeguards for young adults entering prediction markets.

US$2,500 Monthly Deposit Limit

The principal change introduces a default monthly deposit limit of US$2,500 for accounts held by traders aged 18 to 20.

These users will automatically be placed into a special account category providing additional protections.

The restriction applies to monthly deposits and should not be confused with a corresponding limit on total trading volume or accumulated losses.

The measure will be introduced progressively as part of the company’s expanded risk management framework.

As a default setting, the limit can be modified or disabled by users under the platform’s applicable conditions.

Alerts for Concentrated Trading Positions

Kalshi will also introduce automated warnings when it identifies an unusually large concentration of funds in a single trade.

The alert will be triggered when a new trader meets two conditions:

  • Their account balance exceeds US$1,000.
  • They allocate more than 25% of that balance to one trade.

In such circumstances, the platform will display a notification encouraging the trader to diversify their positions.

The feature aims to improve awareness of financial risk and discourage users from concentrating excessive funds on a single event.

The warning does not necessarily result in an automatic trading block.

Luana Lopes Lara Highlights Young Trader Protections

Luana Lopes Lara, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Kalshi, explained that the new measures respond to the particular needs of younger users.

“Like the stock exchange, Kalshi is available only to traders 18 and older,” she stated.

The executive acknowledged that young adults are often inexperienced in financial markets and may require additional education and safeguards.

The company has therefore decided to expand its existing protections for this group.

Partnerships With Parent ProTech and ConnectSafely

Kalshi has also announced partnerships with Parent ProTech and ConnectSafely, organisations specialising in youth protection and digital safety.

The collaboration will support the development of guides for parents and families explaining how prediction markets operate.

The educational materials will address:

  • How event contracts work.
  • Financial risks associated with trading.
  • Preventing underage access.
  • Identifying potentially problematic behaviour.
  • Tools supporting responsible decisions.

The initiative aims to provide families with practical information and improve understanding of the risks associated with these platforms.

ConnectSafely Highlights Trading Risks

Larry Magid, CEO of ConnectSafely, emphasised the importance of informing adults about the risks younger users may face.

He explained that the potential consequences of participating in prediction markets extend beyond financial losses.

They can also include compulsive trading, excessive screen time and risky financial behaviour.

Magid said the partnership aims to prevent minors from accessing prediction markets while helping young people develop better judgement concerning money and financial risk.

Age Verification and Underage Protection

Kalshi reiterated that its platform is available exclusively to individuals aged 18 and over.

The company uses Know Your Customer (KYC) identity verification procedures to confirm users’ identities and ages.

Applications from minors are automatically rejected.

Kalshi also provides an ID Check feature allowing adults to verify whether another individual is using their identity to access the platform.

The tool is intended to help prevent teenagers from trading using identification belonging to family members.

Responsible Trading Tools

The new measures build on safeguards already available to Kalshi customers.

These include:

  • Voluntary time and spending limits.
  • Temporary trading breaks.
  • Self-exclusion.
  • Warnings about risky behaviour.
  • Preventive trading blocks.
  • Educational resources concerning financial risk.

Young traders can also access confidential mental health support through Birches Health.

Following their first trade, users aged 18 to 20 receive information about the tools available to help manage their trading activity.

Inner Circle Supports Family Awareness

Kalshi also offers Inner Circle, a feature designed to help family members and trusted individuals stay informed about younger users’ trading activity.

The system provides real-time notifications concerning trading frequency and volume.

The company believes the feature can improve awareness of potential risks and encourage family discussions about responsible financial decisions.

It complements the educational guides and default account protections announced by Kalshi.

Debate Over Minimum Trading Age Continues

The measures come amid growing regulatory debate concerning prediction markets in the United States.

Kalshi operates under federal CFTC oversight and allows participation from users aged 18 and above.

However, most US states that permit conventional sports betting require customers to be at least 21 years old.

This distinction has raised questions about sports-related event contracts and the risks facing younger adults.

While Kalshi maintains that it operates as a regulated financial exchange, other stakeholders have called for stronger age restrictions covering certain prediction market products.

Industry Impact and Next Steps

The introduction of the US$2,500 monthly deposit limit expands Kalshi’s protection policies for younger traders.

The company will also introduce concentration alerts and develop educational materials in partnership with specialist organisations.

The new features will be rolled out progressively as the US debate continues over prediction market regulation and minimum participation ages.

With default deposit limits, risk alerts and new educational partnerships, Kalshi aims to strengthen protections for traders aged 18 to 20 without changing its general minimum access age.
