Zona de Azar Brazil – Brazil to Host the First Boxing World Cup of the Year

Brazil. – March 21, 2025 – www.zonadeazar.com Brazil will host another international sporting event with the support of the Ministry of Sports. From March 31 to April 5, the city of Foz do Iguaçu (PR) will welcome the Boxing World Cup, one of the most important tournaments in global boxing.
The competition will feature approximately 150 athletes from 18 countries, including some of the biggest names in Brazilian boxing, such as Abner Teixeira, Jucielen Romeu, Wanderley Pereira, and Carolina Almeida, among others.
Among the confirmed nations are boxing powerhouses like the United States, France, Germany, and Great Britain, as well as other relevant countries in the sport, such as Argentina, Australia, Panama, Norway, Poland, Kazakhstan, Taiwan, Switzerland, Guatemala, India, Italy, Sweden, and Uzbekistan.
Iziane Marques, Secretary of Sports Excellence (SNE) at the Ministry of Sports, emphasizes that the competition represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen Olympic boxing in Brazil and establish the country as a host for high-level international events.
“Hosting the tournament not only enhances the competitiveness and global ranking of Brazilian boxers but also contributes to technical and sporting exchanges, directly impacting the growth of the sport in the country. Additionally, by ensuring free public access, the event promotes inclusion and broadens the reach of boxing, encouraging community participation and the development of new talent,” says Iziane.

She also highlights that the Ministry’s support, through the SNE, reaffirms its commitment to sports development by providing proper infrastructure for athletes, coaches, and referees. “This is a key competition for the athletes’ trajectory in the world rankings, and Brazil is demonstrating its organizational capacity and prominent role in the global sports movement,” the secretary adds.
Of the 16 Brazilian athletes competing in the World Cup, 14 receive support from the Bolsa Atleta program, showcasing the impact of government incentives on the development of national boxing.
Marcos Cândido de Brito, President of the Brazilian Boxing Confederation, highlights the importance of the event for Brazil. “I believe this competition will be essential for Brazilian boxing, as it will position us on the international calendar of the sport. We will have the participation of world-renowned athletes and leaders, and undoubtedly, we will do very well. The Ministry of Sports is a great ally in the development of national boxing.”
Male and female boxers will compete to accumulate points throughout the tournament, which is part of an international circuit. After the stage in Brazil, the Boxing World Cup will move to Kazakhstan in June and to a third, yet-to-be-determined country in July. The season finale will take place in New Delhi, India, in November 2025.
The event will be hosted at the Rafain Palace Hotel & Convention Center.
