Zona de Azar Brasil – Brazil: Hearing on November 11-12 to Discuss the Impact of Sports Betting

Brazil.- October 30, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com Supreme Court Justice Luiz Fux has determined the entities that will participate in the public hearing, also known as the “bets hearing,” to discuss the impact of sports betting and online gaming in Brazil. Participants will include football clubs, associations, betting operators, and health professionals.

More than 100 requests were submitted to participate in the hearing. A total of 45 speakers were accepted, and the hearing will take place in the STF’s 1st Chamber session hall on Monday, November 11, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Tuesday, November 12, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The general public can watch the broadcast on TV Justiça, listen on Rádio Justiça, or follow it on the institution’s YouTube channel.

Justice Fux mentioned that he does not expect this hearing to be repetitive and tedious. “It is expected that the speakers provide objective, concise, and consistent arguments, supported by real-world data and rigorous scientific evidence, avoiding merely generic or abstract speeches, or repeating arguments already presented in the case files.”

The criteria for selecting participants in the bets hearing involved expertise and specialization in sector-related issues. Topics will cover mental health; gambling addiction; regulation; advertising, one of the hottest topics in the Brazilian landscape; money laundering; taxation, and asset management.

“The hearings are public in nature, meaning the information gathered is directed not only to the Supreme Court Justices but also to the public, which has a civic duty to engage in discussions that significantly impact our country,” Fux added.
