Catena Media Appoints Martin Zetterlund as Interim CTO
Malta.- 18 September 2026 | www.zonadeazar.com Catena Media has appointed Martin Zetterlund as Interim Chief Technology Officer while the company continues its recruitment process for a permanent technology leader.
The appointment took effect on 17 September 2026, placing an existing board member in charge of an increasingly important function within the group’s strategic transformation.
Reporting Directly to the CEO
Zetterlund will lead Catena Media’s technology function and report directly to Chief Executive Officer Manuel Stan.
The assignment is being carried out under a consultancy agreement and will remain in place until a permanent CTO takes up the role.
Permanent CTO Search Continues
Catena Media confirmed that recruitment remains ongoing.
The group is seeking a permanent executive to lead its technology strategy as it shifts from a traditional affiliate model towards a business increasingly supported by proprietary infrastructure.
Board Member Since 2024
Zetterlund has served on Catena Media’s Board of Directors since December 2024.
He will retain his board seat while carrying out the interim CTO assignment.
His existing familiarity with the organisation and its technology programme was highlighted as an advantage during the transition.
Cybersecurity Experience
The new technology leader has extensive experience across cybersecurity and technology businesses.
Zetterlund co-founded and led Sentor Managed Security Services and also founded ScrapeSentry.
His background therefore combines entrepreneurship with the development and management of specialist technology services.
Senior Role at Accenture
Zetterlund also held senior positions at Accenture.
He spent almost four years as a Managing Director in Sweden, adding significant experience in technology transformation, consultancy and corporate management.
Distil Networks Background
His career also includes senior roles at Distil Networks, a business focused on cybersecurity and protection against automated online traffic.
He currently works as an investor and adviser across cybersecurity and technology ventures.
Replacing Edward Midolo
Zetterlund succeeds Edward Midolo, who spent eight years with Catena Media.
Midolo was promoted to the CTO position in April 2024.
The company has not publicly disclosed the reason for his departure.
Manuel Stan Highlights Internal Knowledge
CEO Manuel Stan said Zetterlund had followed Catena’s technology work closely from the board and already understands the organisation.
The company expects his experience building and running technology businesses to provide stability while the permanent recruitment process is completed.
Technology at the Centre of Strategy
The appointment comes as technology becomes increasingly important to Catena Media’s business model.
The group is working to evolve from a conventional affiliate operation towards a broader infrastructure platform connecting publishers and advertisers through a technology-led marketplace.
Greater Reliance on Proprietary Systems
That transformation places increasing emphasis on internally developed systems.
Technology can support areas including:
- Traffic distribution.
- Publisher management.
- Advertiser relationships.
- Automation.
- Data and analytics.
- Platform scalability.
Financial Context
The appointment follows a second quarter in which Catena Media reported revenue of around €9.5 million.
EBITDA fell to approximately €1.2 million, indicating that the group’s recovery continues to face challenges.
The company nevertheless remains committed to its transformation strategy and its strong commercial focus on North America.
North America Remains Central
Over recent years, Catena Media has substantially reduced its exposure to other regions in order to focus predominantly on the United States and Canada.
Its strategy centres on building a more technology-driven and scalable business around North American online casino and sports-betting markets.
Cybersecurity and Scalability
Zetterlund’s background could be particularly relevant as Catena becomes more dependent on proprietary infrastructure, data and connections between multiple partners.
Security, resilience and scalability become increasingly important as the group develops technology connecting publishers, advertisers and operators.
Industry Context
Major iGaming affiliate groups are investing increasingly heavily in proprietary technology.
The sector is moving beyond traditional content and traffic generation towards data tools, automation, marketplaces and platforms capable of managing commercial relationships at greater scale.
Catena Media is positioning its own transformation within that wider trend.
Next Steps and Impact
Zetterlund will oversee the technology function while Catena Media completes its search for a permanent CTO.
During that period, his priority will be maintaining continuity across existing projects and supporting the group’s move towards a more infrastructure-led business model.
The appointment reinforces the strategic importance Catena Media places on technology, cybersecurity and scalability in its next phase of development.
