Entain Reaffirms Financial Confidence Amid Global Market Challenges

United Kingdom.- 20 October 2026 | www.zonadeazar.com Entain, the international betting and gaming group behind Ladbrokes, Coral, bwin and Sportingbet, has reaffirmed its confidence in cash generation and financial performance during an investor call following its third-quarter 2026 results.

The company reported a 2% year-on-year increase in net gaming revenue (NGR), primarily supported by digital operations in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Despite regulatory challenges in Brazil and Austria, Entain remains focused on cost optimisation and strengthening its financial position.

Cost Efficiency and Shareholder Value

Michael Snape, Chief Financial Officer of Entain, outlined three priorities:

  • Optimising operating costs.
  • Improving cash generation.
  • Strengthening the balance sheet and shareholder value.

Snape explained that cost management is an ongoing process rather than a standalone restructuring initiative.

Entain has already implemented workforce reductions and other efficiency measures but does not currently intend to announce a major restructuring programme or immediate share buybacks.

The strategy follows an approximately 42% decline in the company’s share price during 2026 and its recent move from the FTSE 100 to the FTSE 250.

UK Taxation and Illegal Gambling Competition

Stella David, CEO of Entain, raised concerns about increased advertising activity by illegal gambling operators in the United Kingdom.

She highlighted the importance of strengthening the group’s established brands and maintaining its presence across digital and retail channels.

David also warned about a potential increase in Machine Games Duty, the tax applied to certain gaming machines.

According to the executive, further taxation could threaten the viability of betting shops, reduce employment and negatively affect local communities.

Brazil and Austria: Regulatory Opportunities

In Brazil, Entain recorded a 36% decline in net gaming revenue following restrictions affecting its Sportingbet operations.

David expressed confidence that a regulated market could eventually return and confirmed that Entain would assess re-entry once the regulatory framework becomes clearer.

In Austria, the company is monitoring proposed reforms that could introduce a multi-licensing system in 2027.

Snape explained that the draft legislation includes a nine-month cooling-off period for certain operators before they can apply for a licence.

Although this requirement could delay revenue growth, Entain expects its impact on EBITDA to remain limited.

Next Steps and Impact

Entain remains confident in its ability to generate cash despite regulatory uncertainty and financial pressures.

The company will prioritise operational efficiency, the stability of its UK businesses and commercial opportunities arising from new regulatory frameworks.

Developments in British gambling taxation and regulatory decisions in Brazil and Austria will be important factors shaping its strategy throughout 2027.
