Betting Brands Expand Commercial Reach from Carnival to Netflix in Brasil
Brazil.- 18 August 2026 | www.zonadeazar.com Regulated betting companies in Brazil are expanding their commercial presence beyond traditional sports sponsorships, increasing investment across entertainment, influencers, major public events and new advertising platforms.
The trend reflects the economic scale reached by the industry since the introduction of regulation and its growing integration with media, consumer and entertainment businesses.
Beyond Football
Betting brands have established themselves as major financial supporters of Brazilian football and currently hold front-of-shirt sponsorships with 12 of the 20 clubs in the Brasileirão Série A.
However, their commercial reach now extends well beyond football.
Operators have partnered with influencers, celebrities and sports personalities including Carlinhos Maia, Jon Vlogs, Virginia Fonseca, Galvão Bueno, Neymar and Vini Jr.
Betting companies have also become increasingly visible as sponsors of Carnival groups and other entertainment events across Brazil.
Netflix Looks at Betting Partnerships
The industry’s expansion is also attracting interest from major international entertainment businesses.
Netflix recently appointed executive Ian Hunter to lead commercial partnerships with online betting companies.
The move created the company’s first role dedicated specifically to the real money gaming (RMG) sector.
The appointment reflects Netflix’s interest in developing new advertising and commercial opportunities connected to the gambling industry.
R$37 Billion in GGR
The scale of Brazil’s regulated betting market is also evident in its financial performance.
During 2025, the first year under the regulated framework, betting operators generated approximately R$37 billion in Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR).
Around R$9.95 billion was directed to government through taxation and related obligations.
This level of revenue is increasing the sector’s relevance across the wider Brazilian economy.
Funding for Public Security
The fiscal importance of betting has also been reflected in legislation.
Law No. 15,480, sanctioned on 30 July, redirects part of the federal revenue generated by fixed-odds betting to the Federal Police’s Funapol fund.
The allocation will increase progressively until reaching 3% from 2028.
Statements
Nickolas Tadeu Ribeiro de Campos, Founder and Chairman of Ana Gaming Brasil, said licensed betting companies generate employment, pay taxes and contribute significant resources to sport and communications through sponsorships and commercial partnerships.
He argued that increasing tax revenue during 2026 demonstrates the growing maturity of the regulated market and stressed the need to reduce the space available to unregulated operators.
Bernardo Cavalcanti Freire, Partner at Betlaw and legal adviser to the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL), also highlighted the wider economic and social significance of tax revenue generated by the industry.
Employment and Economic Development
The growth of betting is also creating employment both within and beyond the sector.
João Fraga, CEO of Paag, said the market is responsible for more than 10,000 direct jobs and a further 5,500 indirect positions.
Investment in sport, entertainment, advertising and technology is further extending the industry’s economic impact into other sectors.
Responsible Gambling
The sector’s commercial and economic growth also keeps social responsibility at the centre of the debate.
Digital content creator Daniel Fortune stressed the need for greater public education around the probability of losses, genuine responsible gambling measures, prevention of gambling-related harm and enforcement against illegal operators.
Cristiano Costa, a psychologist at Empresa Brasileira de Apoio ao Compulsivo (EBAC), said continued regulatory and revenue growth should be accompanied by harm-reduction policies and early identification of risky gambling behaviour.
Next Steps or Impact
The move into entertainment platforms, influencer partnerships, Carnival sponsorships and new advertising channels shows that betting brands are reducing their dependence on sport alone to build visibility.
The challenge will be to sustain that commercial expansion within a regulated environment while balancing economic growth with consumer protection, responsible gambling and stronger action against illegal operators.
