Online Gambling Prevention Program Launched in Mendoza Schools

Argentina.- March 27 2025 www.zonadeazar.com The Government of Mendoza announced that, through the Department of Education (DGE), it has launched the program “Your best move is to take care of yourself”, an online gambling prevention initiative that seeks to promote “a safe and responsible digital environment” and raise awareness of the risks of problem gambling.

The proposal will be managed by the DGE’s School Support Department (DAE), with the aim of providing guidance and tools to the entire educational community for the prevention, identification and tackling of situations related to consumption. In addition, it will have the participation of the Mental Health Department of the Ministry of Health and the Youth Coordination.

In this sense, Carina Gannam, head of the DAE, pointed out that they will work together with these areas “to achieve a more effective reach in all the schools in the province”.

“The purpose of this program is to strengthen awareness in the family and school environment about the risks of online gambling, facilitate the early detection of compulsive behavior and anticipate possible problematic situations by identifying risk factors,” the official said.

School census

The DAE also reported that a census aimed at the entire educational community is being developed in order to address specific questions about gaming and gambling. Training for teachers will also be provided.

Gannam indicated that, although there are various surveys on the subject, they have not yet been systematized with the scientific rigor necessary to establish concrete data that would allow for the adjustment of intervention strategies for gambling-related problems.

“We already have the census ready, which we will apply in secondary schools, which will allow us to obtain precise figures to work on and share with the different ministries,” explained the director of Acompañamiento Escolar.

The effective implementation of “Your best move is to look after yourself” is scheduled to begin on April 26, a date agreed upon by the Government of Mendoza, Grupo América, the Provincial Institute of Games and Casinos (IPJyC) and the National University of Cuyo.

Finally, Gannam added that a civil and administrative judge will be in charge of providing the legal framework related to games and gambling.
