Brazil.- February 21, 2025 www.zonadeazar.com The CPI of Bets, launched in November to investigate online betting, is resuming its meetings after Carnival. According to the commission’s president, Senator Dr. Hiran (PP-RR), the commission’s work never stopped, and the team has been dedicated to analyzing the received documents and financial transaction information of those under investigation.

— We have not stopped. We are analyzing all the documents, the information coming from Coaf [Financial Activities Control Council], the information from the Federal Revenue Service, from oversight bodies, and we will inform all members so that we can set the commission’s priority agendas — said the president of the committee.

Among the financial information requests already approved by the commission are several requests for financial intelligence reports from Coaf, which constitute a breach of confidentiality. The list includes influencers such as Deolane Bezerra and betting industry entrepreneurs like Fernando Oliveira Lima, known as Fernandin OIG.

— We are going to do very important work, mainly to protect people, to prevent capital flight, to ensure that these betting companies actually pay taxes that will be allocated to healthcare, education, and security. They are making a lot of money and are either not paying any taxes or paying very little — said the senator.

Commission

The CPI of Bets was established on November 12 and has Senator Soraya Thronicke (Podemos-MS) as its rapporteur. At the end of 2024, the senator denounced attacks on the commission’s reputation. Soraya reported being threatened and stated that the committee would see the investigation through to the end.

For 2025, the senator announced that one of the focuses is to hear from influencers who use their social media channels to promote online gambling. The expected completion date for the commission’s work, unless extended, is April 30.
