Zona de Azar Brazil – Brazil: 23 Betting Companies Have Already Started the Licensing Process

Brazil.- August 16, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com The Ministry of Finance has already received 23 applications from sports betting and online gaming companies interested in obtaining a license to operate legally in Brazil.

With the deadline approaching on August 20, betting companies are racing against time to ensure their operations are properly legalized starting January 1, 2025.

Ministry of Finance at the center of the entire process

The Betting Management System (Sigap) registered only five companies until last month. But as the final deadline approaches, 17 new companies have applied for authorization in August, including Betano, Superbet, and Betfair.

According to the rules of the National Congress, these companies must:

• Pay a fixed concession of R$ 30 million
• Allocate 12% of betting revenues to public coffers

The regulation aims to formalize the online betting market, ensuring significant revenue for the government and job creation.

The sports betting sector has grown rapidly since its legalization in December 2018, reflecting its importance to the national economy. Therefore, the Ministry of Finance is managing the applications, ensuring that companies comply with the legal requirements to operate in the country.

It is worth noting that the first licenses should be announced later this year, allowing companies to enter 2025 in compliance with Brazilian regulations.

Thus, the sector is expected to consolidate soon, with big names in the market ensuring their presence in Brazil. Meanwhile, other companies still have a chance to regularize themselves in this first window, although without a guarantee of immediate approval.
