Zona de Azar Brazil – Brazil: Libra Clubs Debate TV and Betting Rights

Brazil.- August 14, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com – Professionals from 12 clubs of the Brazilian Football League (Libra) met in São Paulo last Friday (9th) to discuss proposals on international broadcasting rights and sports betting received in the last few months.

Representatives from Brusque, Flamengo, Grêmio, Guaraní, Palmeiras, Red Bull Bragantino, Santos, São Paulo, and Vitória were present. Managers from Atlético-MG, Bahía, and Paysandú participated virtually.

Leila Pereira, president of Palmeiras, highlighted the progress of Libra: “We are advancing in a consistent and solid manner, always seeking the best conditions for our clubs and members. We created Libra to collectively strengthen Brazilian football and its teams, and we will remain steadfast in this goal.”

In addition to international rights, Libra has already secured a major deal for domestic broadcast rights. In March 2023, the clubs signed an exclusive agreement with Grupo Globo, which covers open, closed TV, streaming, and pay-per-view. This contract, valid from 2025 to 2029, involves more than R$ 6 billion for the Libra clubs.

Alberto Guerra, president of Grêmio, emphasized the importance of the alliance with Grupo Globo: “This partnership with the country’s main broadcaster brings budget predictability and exposure for the next five years. Moreover, it gives us peace of mind to explore new sources of income and strategic business opportunities for the Libra clubs, which is what we discussed in this meeting.”

Recently, Corinthians left the group and joined Liga Forte União, which is still negotiating its broadcast rights in Brazil.
