LaLiga Cuts Match-Fixing Alerts to Six this Season
Spain.- May 14, 2026 www.zonadeazar.com LaLiga reports that its integrity model has registered only six alerts linked to suspicious betting activity during the current season, all related to non-professional football. The organisation states that strengthened monitoring and prevention systems are reducing the risks of sports manipulation in Spain.
Overview
LaLiga’s Integrity Department continues developing an operational structure based on prevention, monitoring and investigation. According to figures released by the organisation, the number of alerts detected represents one of the lowest records seen in recent years within Spanish football.
The entity explains that the system aims to anticipate potential irregularities through permanent betting market controls and dedicated sports supervision protocols.
Details and context
The programme includes educational workshops aimed at footballers, coaches and technical staff in order to reinforce awareness regarding risks associated with sports betting and corruption in sport. More than 3,700 people participated in LaLiga’s training activities during the season.
At the same time, the organisation monitors close to 10,000 matches annually through betting market surveillance tools. In addition, 186 fixtures include the physical presence of integrity officers responsible for detecting unusual behaviour and activating investigative procedures.
LaLiga stresses that an alert does not automatically mean a match has been fixed. Detected anomalies may result from different factors and require additional analysis before determining potential wrongdoing.
Industry impact
The reduction in the number of alerts reflects stronger control mechanisms within professional Spanish football. LaLiga states that so-called third-party bonuses, external financial incentives intended to influence sporting outcomes, have virtually disappeared from top divisions due to stricter sanctions and regulatory controls.
The situation also highlights that amateur and semi-professional competitions continue to represent the most vulnerable segments regarding betting-related manipulation risks.
Future outlook
LaLiga will continue expanding its integrity programmes alongside police authorities and regulatory bodies. The organisation currently works with the Spanish National Police through CENPIDA, the specialised unit focused on sports integrity and betting investigations.
The model aims to strengthen preventive systems across Spanish football, particularly within non-professional divisions where operational risks remain higher.
