Zona de Azar Brazil – Brazil: LOTERJ Reopens Betting Accreditation Period

Brazil.- September 6, 2024 www.zonadeazar.com The high demand from companies to operate legally in the State of Rio de Janeiro has led LOTERJ to reopen the period for new betting houses to be accredited for Fixed-Odds Sports Betting and Online Games.

Requests can be made over a 15-day period starting this Thursday (5/9). The clauses and conditions of Accreditation Notice nº 01/2023 remain in effect (https://www.loterj.rj.gov.br/editais.php).

Cláudio Castro’s government is a pioneer in establishing regulations for the market. LOTERJ was the first state lottery to legalize betting houses and online games in Brazil. Since last year, the following betting houses have been operating: Apostou RJ, Bestbet, Caesars Sportsbook/BiG Brazil, MarjoSports, Rio Jogos, and Pixbet.

The state offers the best cost-benefit in the country for online betting houses, with a concession of R$ 5 million for a period of up to five years of operation, and a variable concession of 5% per month on Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR).

The sector generates jobs and contributes to social projects, bringing well-being to the people of Rio. In the last three years, the State Government has increased social investments almost fivefold using LOTERJ resources: R$ 1.5 million in 2022; R$ 4 million in 2023; and from January to December 2024, more than R$ 7 million. This growth is proportional to the legalization process of betting.
