The investigation began after a major operation carried out in September 2024 by Chile’s Investigative Police (PDI) and prosecutors across seven regions. Authorities seized approximately 1,500 gaming machines and arrested 19 individuals during the raids.
Prosecutors ultimately decided to bring 10 defendants to trial. The harshest sentence request targets Marlo Alarcón Opazo, identified as the alleged leader of the organisation, who faces up to 25 years in prison. According to the investigation, the network allegedly moved around CLP12.5bn between 2020 and 2023 through multiple commercial entities.
Prosecutor Pamela Lillo argues that sufficient evidence exists to support charges linked to organised crime, illegal casinos, clandestine trade and money laundering. The Municipality of Concepción welcomed the progress of the investigation and highlighted the institutional importance of the trial.
