LOTBA to Block Lottery Prizes for Child Support Debtors
Argentina.- 17 July 2026 www.zonadeazar.com The Buenos Aires City Lottery (LOTBA) has signed an agreement to implement its “Child Support Debtors” Responsibility Programme. The measure will prevent individuals listed in the Public Register of Delinquent Child Support Debtors (ReAM) from collecting lottery prizes while they remain on the register.
News Details
Prize payments will remain blocked until the judge who ordered the winner’s inclusion in the ReAM expressly authorises their release. The mechanism brings compliance with child support obligations into LOTBA’s responsible gambling and social responsibility policies.
The agreement was signed with representatives of the Buenos Aires City justice authorities. Participants included City Justice Secretary Francisco Javier Quintana; Director General of Registry Affairs Agustín Ulanovsky; LOTBA President Jesús Acevedo; and the lottery’s Secretary General, Eva Del Río Frontera.
Industry Context
The initiative expands the restrictions imposed on individuals who fail to meet child support obligations. It follows a similar approach to existing restrictions preventing registered debtors from entering football stadiums and links prize collection to compliance with judicial orders.
The policy also incorporates the protection of children’s and adolescents’ rights into the lottery’s broader social responsibility framework.
Statements
LOTBA President Jesús Acevedo explained:
“Prize payments will remain blocked until the judge who ordered the individual’s registration in the ReAM authorises their release.”
He added:
“As with restrictions on access to football stadiums, the message is clear: anyone who fails to meet their child support obligation cannot allocate resources to entertainment.”
Acevedo also stated:
“At the Buenos Aires City Lottery, we understand that responsible gambling is not only a control policy. It also means promoting values, strengthening social responsibility and helping to guarantee respect for the rights of children and adolescents.”
Next Steps or Impact
The agreement will allow LOTBA to verify winners’ registration status before authorising prize payments. Where a person appears in the ReAM, the funds will remain blocked until a court authorises their collection.
