Prediction Markets and Earnings Lead Gaming Agenda
Global.- 22 July 2026 www.zonadeazar.com Prediction markets, corporate earnings season and new state-level sports betting reports are set to dominate the gaming industry agenda during the week. The calendar includes a US congressional hearing on sports event contracts, financial updates from major casino operators and potential legal developments involving Kalshi and Polymarket.
News Details
The House Subcommittee on Commodity Markets, Digital Assets and Rural Development will hold a hearing on 21 July entitled “Examining Customer Protections and Market Integrity in Sports Event Prediction Markets”.
Lawmakers are expected to consider the treatment of sports-related event contracts, consumer safeguards and whether these products should remain governed by the Commodity Exchange Act. The hearing follows earlier congressional sessions in which lawmakers questioned whether event contracts operate as financial instruments or unregulated gambling products.
Trading activity generated during the 2026 FIFA World Cup will remain a major area of attention. An estimate from H2 Gambling Capital placed prediction markets at approximately 27% of all legal US sports betting volume during the tournament, compared with 9% at the beginning of the year.
A separate Macquarie report estimated that prediction markets generated more than $50 billion in trading volume during June, driven primarily by the World Cup.
Industry Context
The sector will also monitor Underdog’s newly launched proprietary exchange, introduced following its acquisition of Aristotle Exchange. Attention will focus on state availability, the range of contracts offered, product features and the platform’s ability to attract meaningful trading volume.
Legal activity remains significant. Kalshi is seeking an injunction pending appeal after an adverse ruling in New York, with state officials required to respond by 22 July. In Ireland, the national gambling regulator has threatened High Court proceedings unless Polymarket stops offering services in the country.
Second-quarter earnings season will continue with reports from Monarch Casino & Resort, Las Vegas Sands and Boyd Gaming. Investors will watch performance in Las Vegas and Nevada, trends in consumer demand and Las Vegas Sands’ commentary on possible US expansion opportunities.
Michigan and Massachusetts may also release June sports betting figures. New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania have already published their results, meaning the additional reports will provide a clearer indication of the World Cup’s effect on handle, revenue, operator hold and market share.
Next Steps or Impact
The congressional hearing could provide early indications of whether lawmakers will pursue new legislation or continue treating sports event contracts as federally regulated financial products.
Court decisions, regulatory responses, corporate earnings and June revenue reports will collectively determine whether World Cup-driven growth can translate into sustainable gains for traditional operators, sportsbooks and prediction-market platforms.
