Brazil: Belo Horizonte Debates Betting Advertising Restrictions

Brazil.- 11 June 2026 🌐 www.zonadeazar.com City councillors have reviewed proposals that could restrict or even ban online betting advertising in the capital of Minas Gerais.

The Belo Horizonte City Council has reviewed two bills aimed at restricting the advertising of online betting operators, commonly known as “bets”. The proposals were considered in a second-round vote and could become one of the most significant municipal regulatory measures affecting the sector in Brazil.

Bill 297/2025, introduced by councillor Pedro Rousseff (PT), would limit betting advertisements, including sponsorships of sporting, cultural, civic and educational events. It also proposes restrictions on indirect social media promotion and the pre-installation of betting apps on electronic devices.

Meanwhile, Bill 362/2025, sponsored by Wagner Ferreira (Rede) and several other councillors, takes a broader approach by proposing a complete ban on betting advertising, promotions and commercial activities linked to online gambling within the municipality.

The debate comes amid growing national discussions surrounding betting advertising regulation and responsible gambling measures across Brazil.

Both proposals require at least 21 votes in favour before being sent to the mayor for approval or veto.
