Coljuegos Surpasses 46,000 Illegal Gambling Site Blocks

The figure represents 83% of all blocking requests ever issued by the regulator and reflects the country’s intensified efforts to combat unlicensed gambling.

According to Coljuegos, enforcement actions against unlicensed operators have intensified under the current administration. The regulator has strengthened the use of technology, including its Artificial Intelligence Centre, to improve the detection and blocking of illegal gambling websites.
Coljuegos also highlighted its cooperation with the Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies (MinTIC) to streamline procedures with internet service providers and accelerate the blocking of websites operating or promoting unauthorised betting services.
Since its creation, the regulator has issued 55,658 blocking requests, with 46,228 of those generated since 2022. This represents a fivefold increase compared with previous administrations, which issued approximately 9,000 requests.

Colombia remains one of Latin America’s most mature regulated online gambling markets, with 15 licensed operators currently authorised to offer services. Combating illegal gambling continues to be a key regulatory priority to protect consumers and preserve funding for the country’s public healthcare system.

Marco Emilio Hincapié, President of Coljuegos, said:
“Never before has an administration fought illegal gambling with such determination. Through Coljuegos and our Artificial Intelligence Centre, we have optimised the detection and blocking of unauthorised websites.”
He also stated:
“We have been working with the Ministry of ICT to simplify procedures with internet service providers and effectively block any website that operates or promotes illegal betting.”
He added:
“Previous administrations issued around 9,000 blocking requests. We have multiplied that figure fivefold in just four years. Illegal operators have never faced such pressure.”
