Macao Gaming Revenue Forecast to Rise 4.5% in August

Macao.- 4 August 2026 www.zonadeazar.com Casino gross gaming revenue in Macao could reach MOP 23.16 billion —USD 2.87 billion— in August 2026, according to a forecast from Seaport Research Partners.

The projection represents year-on-year growth of 4.5% and an increase of 14.3% from July, supported by customers returning after postponing trips during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

News Details

Seaport expects average daily GGR to reach approximately MOP 747 million —USD 93 million— during August.

This would represent 95% of the average daily level recorded in August 2019, before the pandemic, and a substantial improvement on the MOP 654 million reported for July.

Seaport Senior Analyst Vitaly Umansky linked the anticipated recovery partly to the return of visitors who deferred their travel while the World Cup was taking place.

The tournament had a particularly significant effect on premium-mass and VIP visitation, while also reducing activity among agents serving higher-value customers.

July Performance

Macao’s GGR totalled MOP 20.26 billion —USD 2.51 billion— in July, representing a year-on-year decline of 8.4%.

However, the result was 9.4% higher than June, when revenue stood at MOP 18.52 billion. July also exceeded some market forecasts, although it remained below the previous year’s level.

Gaming activity began to improve during the second half of July after the World Cup concluded. The recovery was modestly disrupted by an unexpected typhoon north of Hong Kong over the weekend of 25 and 26 July.

Seaport estimated that mass-market GGR declined less sharply than VIP revenue. VIP table hold remained elevated but was lower than in July 2025.

Industry Context

During the first seven months of 2026, Macao casinos generated cumulative GGR of MOP 147.16 billion —USD 18.22 billion—, an increase of 4.4% year-on-year.

Despite that growth, the total remained 15.4% below the MOP 173.96 billion recorded during the corresponding period of 2019. July revenue recovered to 82.9% of its pre-pandemic comparative level.

The figures indicate that the market’s recovery remains progressive but uneven across mass, premium-mass and VIP gaming.

Monthly performance also remains exposed to external factors including major sporting events, weather conditions, visitor flows and changing travel patterns among customers from mainland China and other Asian markets.

Operator Outlook

Seaport estimated that Galaxy Entertainment achieved the largest market-share gain during July, supported partly by favourable hold.

Melco Resorts recorded the largest estimated decline, partly because of weaker VIP hold, followed by Wynn Macau. Sands China was believed to have gained slightly.

These movements demonstrate the sensitivity of monthly results to VIP-table performance and higher-value customer behaviour, as well as differences in each concessionaire’s accommodation and entertainment offering.

Next Steps or Impact

Seaport expects the recovery to continue into September, forecasting year-on-year GGR growth of 11%.

For the full third quarter, the brokerage projects an increase of 1.8%, followed by growth of 3.2% in the fourth quarter.

August’s performance will help determine whether the weakness recorded during the World Cup was temporary or whether more persistent pressures remain across the premium and VIP segments.

A result close to the MOP 23.16 billion forecast would strengthen expectations for the second half of the year and enable operators to recover some of the activity deferred during June and July.
